It’s time to board into a new adventure and load our backpack with experiences. Today we are prepared for a new expedition through the desert like real explorers. Take your water bottle, your compass and your intuition for a dream trip.
THE EXPEDITION BEGINS
Our backpacks will be a featured player during the expedition. Everything we pack should not exceed 10% of our weight. Remember, we should take only what we are really going to use.

BEATING THE HEAT
Drinking more water isn’t a good option; we should be careful about sweating too much. Our clothes will play a key role in keeping us hydrated in the desert. Instead of drinking more, we need to sweat less. We recommend wearing light colors that reflect sunlight as opposed to absorbing it.

USING A COMPASS FOR ORIENTATION
Do you know why compasses always point north? Planet Earth is a huge magnet, with its negative pole at the North Pole. The compass needle is fitted with a small magnet. The magnet’s positive pole tries its hardest to get closer to the Earth’s negative pole.

THE SUNDIAL
We can figure out what time it is by looking at the sun’s position. With just a shoelace and a tree branch we can build a makeshift sundial. Use the shoelace to draw a semicircle, taking the length of the shadow cast by the tree branch as its radius. By watching how the shadow moves, we can locate the two points that indicate the north and the south.

NIGHTTIME IN DESERT
Temperatures in the desert drop overnight. We can protect ourselves from the cold by building a fire. We should make sure to check the direction of the wind first to keep our cabin from filling with smoke and to prevent any stray sparks from setting a fire.
