How would you like to make your own rose instead of buying one this year? We propose a very original handicraft that will surprise your family and friends on Saint George’s Day. Our rose is made from books you no longer use. Unimaginable, right?
The time has come to give those books you no longer need a second life. You will need both creativity and a bit of skill with your hands and we’ll make gorgeous roses by recycling the paper from books that are no longer of any use to you. We will transform its pages into original petals full of stories, tales and charm. Let’s go!
Materials:
- An old book you no longer use
- A CD or round object with a big diameter
- Liquid silicone
- Scissors
- Pencil
- A long wooden stick
- Sticky tape
Follow these steps:
- Take a page from the book and place the CD on top of it. Use the pencil to trace the outline of the CD on the page.
- Once the circle is drawn, we proceed to cut it out. Then, using the scissors again we cut a spiral shape into the circle with a thickness of approximately one centimetre.
- When the spiral is cut, we take its outer edge and fold it inwards. Repeat this folding action three times, place it on the wooden stick and glue it down with the silicone. When the latter has dried, start rolling the entire spiral around the stick until the end.
- Give the rolled spiral a final shape that pleases you and then use the sticky tape to fix the bottom end of the paper rose to the stick.
- You could also turn the tips of the petals down. Later press the rose slightly, very carefully, against a flat surface to flatten the petals a little bit more; this will make your rose look even more impressive.
